Dan: Can’t say I’m exactly surprised.

Dan: And what are the results?

Alpharius: posting a statement

Dan: Seriously?

Dan: And what is your statement going to say?

Alpharius: I tried to make it go to ‘hey we just want some answers’

Alpharius: its kinda fucking hard to make it better than that seeing how its off the getgo

Dan: What answers? How are we supposed to give you answers?

Alpharius: that the accusation is correct

Alpharius: I don’t know

Dan: The accusation from whom?

Dan: Who is accusing us of what, exactly?

Alpharius: literally this came out of left field

Dan: Who brought it up?

Alpharius: [Arlington SDS Member]

Dan: I am not precisely shocked.

Alpharius: he’s also talked personally wiht the victims advocate

Alpharius: I don’t know her name

Dan: Yeah, her name is [VA], and she is not a victim’s advocate.

Dan: Like…

Dan: That’s not a thing you get to just declare yourself.

Dan: It’s a person that takes part in a process in a certain way, and not what she is doing.

Alpharius: I did the best I could

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: Well, that is unfortunate as fuck.

Dan: And while [Arlington SDS Member] has personally talked to her, he has not personally talked to me, though he said that he would.

Dan: Like, he stood me up at the meeting.

Dan: So…

Dan: Like, is there interest in hearing both sides of this? Do people think that’s fair, to hear only one side and then post a statement?

Alpharius: I literally emphasized

Alpharius: hey investigation is going on

Dan: But even that is not really quite correct, because the investigation is stalled because we can’t actually talk to the person who is supposedly the victim.

Dan: Because the “victim’s advocate” is telling the victim NOT to talk to us.

Dan: And we are supposed to somehow sort this shit out, without talking to the victim.

Dan: And there’s no actual way to do that.

Dan: Meanwhile, I and a host of other people have been denounced as “rape apologists”, despite that the exact opposite is the case.

Dan: In fact, I urged FRSO to expel the guy or at least suspend him, and they probably would have, only someone told the victim not to talk to them.

Dan: So, if someone here is shielding Dustin, it sure as fuck is not me.

Dan: Eh, but more open letters and public statements is NOT what this situation needs. This is more drama and less solution.

Dan: And [Arlington SDS Member]’s role in this is frankly dishonest.

Alpharius: [Arlington SDS Member] also wants to give the statemnt to [VA]

Alpharius: and have her thouhts on it

Alpharius: I specifically said

Dan: Well, of course he does.

Dan: No proposal, I suppose, to give us the same courtesy?

Alpharius: unless she makes this a more hostile letter than it needs to be

Dan: Like…

Dan: You get that this is going to be the most hostile letter she can get you all to write, right?

Dan: Like, that that is the purpose of this shit?

Alpharius: if that happens

Alpharius: I’ll oppose that shit

Dan: OK.

Dan: Well.

Alpharius: and other members are immediately frank

Alpharius: that we don’t need to make enemies

Dan: So, how about you put something like this in there:

Dan: “We are very concerned at the allegation that an SDS member sexually assaulted another SDS member. We do not think anyone should shield this person. We encourage everyone involved to discuss the matter frankly with one another in order to establish the facts so that appropriate action can be taken.”

Dan: “This is not a moment to shield anyone, based either on friendship or on political ties. Nor is it a moment for anyone to score political points.”

Dan: Do you think that the purpose of this is to get Dustin expelled?

Alpharius: like I said before

Dan: It surely is acknowledged that the woman is not speaking to us, right?

Dan: Or because we’re shielding a supposed rapist in some undefined way?

Alpharius: though [Arlington SDS Member] did admit

Alpharius: FRSO put sanctions on the rapist/dustin/whoever the fuck it is

Dan: Did [Arlington SDS Member] admit that in connection with the time he was sanctioned the woman involved insists quite strongly it was NOT sexual assault?

Alpharius: Nope

Alpharius: Recently, an individual whose name will remain unknown for the sake of her own safety and security revealed that she was raped by a member of Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), an organization which several members of SDS nationally are involved in. FRSO claims that it has been investigating this situation, however, We at Students For A Democratic Society - UTA Chapter feel as though this investigation has lacked a great deal of transparency, and FRSO has not publicly held accountability for this situation. SDS at UTA is calling on [cut off]

Dan: Because [VA] is encouraging the woman not to talk to us.

Dan: Like, I don’t know. I have no idea whatsoever what her motivation is.

Dan: But if her motivation is actually to get rid of Dustin, she’s doing exactly the wrong thing.

Dan: And I have told her, and others have told her.

Dan: Like, understand my frustration:

Dan: [VA] was a friend of mine, someone I trusted, and she came to me with what sounded really, really serious to me.

Dan: And so I went and talked to people about it in an effort to get it resolved.

Dan: And she cut the fucking legs out from under me, prevented me from accomplishing what I had set out to do, and then denounced me as a rape apologist.
